China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) marked a major milestone in its global clean energy expansion on October 30, with the official delivery and operational handover of the Kolemas Photovoltaic (PV) Plant-its first new energy investment project in South America-located in Brazil's northeastern Paraíba State.

CEEC Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CEEC, has assumed full control of the project as its controlling shareholder, taking charge of day-to-day operations and long-term management. The move not only signals CEEC's formal entry into South America's fast-growing new energy market but also reinforces collaboration between China and Brazil in advancing low-carbon development goals.

Project Delivers Tangible Benefits for Brazil

With an installed capacity of 93 megawatts (MW), the Kolemas PV Plant is expected to generate 167 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually-enough to meet the power needs of over 80,000 local households. Beyond energy supply, the project delivers significant environmental and economic value: it will cut annual standard coal consumption by approximately 20,500 tons, reducing carbon emissions and supporting Brazil's national climate targets, while also creating nearly 100 local jobs to boost regional economic activity.

"The Kolemas project is more than an energy facility-it's a symbol of China-Brazil cooperation in green growth," said a senior representative from CEEC Overseas Investment. "We worked closely with local partners during construction to ensure the project aligns with Brazil's energy transition roadmap, and we're committed to maximizing its long-term benefits for communities and the environment."

CEEC's South American Strategy Takes Flight

The delivery of the Kolemas Plant comes as part of CEEC's broader "Four New" strategy, which prioritizes expanding into new energy, new infrastructure, new formats, and new industries globally. For South America-a region with abundant solar resources and rising demand for clean energy-this project serves as a blueprint for future collaboration.

Post-delivery, CEEC Overseas Investment plans to upgrade the project with advanced technologies to enhance efficiency, including adopting AI-driven energy management systems and optimizing PV panel performance. These measures aim to position Kolemas as a regional benchmark for sustainable energy projects, showcasing how Chinese expertise can support Latin America's shift to renewable power.

Looking ahead, CEEC intends to deepen partnerships with Brazilian local governments, energy firms, and financial institutions to explore more new energy opportunities-from solar and wind projects to energy storage solutions. The company's goal is to play a key role in Brazil's target of increasing renewable energy's share of its power mix to 45% by 2030, as outlined in the country's National Energy Plan.

A Boost for China-Brazil Green Ties

The Kolemas project aligns with the joint commitments made by Chinese and Brazilian leaders to strengthen cooperation in clean energy and sustainable development. In recent years, bilateral collaboration in this field has accelerated, with Chinese companies contributing to over 2 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy projects in Brazil-accounting for nearly 15% of the country's total installed solar capacity.

"As two major economies committed to climate action, China and Brazil have a lot to gain from working together," the CEEC representative added. "The Kolemas plant is just the start. We're eager to bring more of China's experience in new energy to South America, supporting the region's green transition while growing our global footprint."
