Cyprus Electricity Authority's distribution system operator will launch a targeted inspection campaign on June 1, focusing on illegal photovoltaic installations and solar power systems expanded without official permits.

The operator warned that unauthorized modification of solar facilities creates severe safety hazards to people and property. Such acts also undermine grid stability and power supply reliability. Besides, unregulated PV equipment disturbs power generation forecasting, worsens power rationing and hinders the normal operation of legally registered solar systems.
Authorities will immediately cut power to non-compliant PV units and revoke their certification. Violators shall cover all inspection costs. Relevant cases will be referred to police, energy regulators and the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services for further investigation and penalties including fines.
Under Cyprus power regulations, property owners must obtain approval from the grid operator before connecting, expanding or renovating renewable energy facilities. Any construction without prior permission violates grid management and interconnection rules.
Authorities urge residents with illegally installed or expanded solar equipment to remove unauthorized components immediately. Those who wish to legalize the facilities shall submit applications via official approval channels.
