Electricity is an important component of modern social life. However, with the increasing global attention to environmental issues, finding clean and sustainable energy has become an urgent task. In this context, photovoltaic power generation has attracted much attention as a green energy source. This article will introduce the principle and technology of photovoltaic power generation, as well as its importance in the field of renewable energy.

1, The basic principles of photovoltaic power generation
The main principle of photovoltaic power generation is based on the photoelectric effect of semiconductors. When photons (quantum units of light) shine on the surface of a metal or semiconductor material, their energy can be absorbed by electrons in the material. If the energy of photons is large enough, electrons will overcome the Coulomb force inside the material and be released from atoms, forming free electrons. This process converts energy from photons into electrical energy, which is the basic principle of the photovoltaic effect.

In typical solar cells, the commonly used semiconductor material is silicon. Silicon atoms have four outer electrons, known as silicon tetravalent. By doping a small amount of other substances in pure silicon, such as phosphorus atoms (with five outer electrons, called "phosphorus pentavalent") and boron atoms (with three outer electrons, called "boron trivalent"), N-type and P-type semiconductors can be formed. When N-type and P-type semiconductor layers come into contact with each other to form a P-N junction, a potential difference will be formed on the contact surface. This potential difference will cause photo generated electrons to flow from P-type semiconductors to N-type semiconductors, forming a current.

When sunlight shines on a solar cell, photo generated electrons generate current in the P-N junction, which is the basic process of photovoltaic power generation. These electrons can be captured and used for power supply without the need for traditional fossil fuel combustion, making photovoltaic power generation a clean and pollution-free form of energy.
