It is reported that the Canadian government announced on September 10th that it will launch a second round of taxation consultation, planning to impose additional taxes on key mineral products, batteries and their components, solar products, and semiconductors from China.

Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland pointed out that Canada's economic growth depends on a fair competition environment in the global market, and this tariff plan is in response to China's unfair trade practices. She stated that the consultation period will last for 30 days and a comprehensive review will be conducted on whether the above-mentioned Chinese products should be subject to additional taxes in accordance with the Customs Tariff Act.

If a new round of tariffs is decided, Canada will further follow up with the actions of the United States and remain consistent with them. As early as this spring, the United States announced plans to impose tariffs on similar products from China.

It is worth noting that this is a follow-up action following Canada's announcement on August 26th of imposing a 100% tariff on imported electric vehicles from China, which will take effect on October 1st. In addition, starting from October 15th, Canada will impose a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum products imported from China.
