India's Tata Power solar panel factory

India's Tata Power has officially launched a 4.3GW solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The plant is operated by its Indian solar manufacturing subsidiary TP Solar Ltd and is known as India's largest single solar manufacturing base.

 

The factory will produce efficient TOPCon and monocrystalline PERC components, but Tata Power has not disclosed the specific production capacity ratio of the two technologies.It is reported that about 80% of the employees in the factory are women.

 

Tata Power stated that the commissioning of this manufacturing base will help meet India's growing demand for renewable energy.

As early as September 2024, the company announced the commissioning of a 2GW solar cell production line in the area.

 

TP Solar plans to first provide batteries and modules for ongoing projects under Tata Power to enhance the stability of its supply chain.
In the future, the company will also explore broader market distribution opportunities.

 

In addition to the new factory, Tata Power currently operates a 682MW module and 530MW battery capacity in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
In addition, the company also plans to build a 2GW component manufacturing base in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

 

According to the CrisilRatings report, as of the end of March 2024, India's total solar module manufacturing capacity has reached 60GW, with a battery capacity of approximately 10GW.
It is expected that by the fiscal year 2027, the total battery manufacturing capacity in India is expected to expand to 55GW.
