Recently, according to Pakistani media BusinessRecorder, the total amount of imported photovoltaic modules in Pakistan from 2020 to 2024 is about 27GW. According to statistics, as of the end of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Pakistan's distribution companies have installed approximately 2.4GW of grid connected capacity in their systems, plus approximately 600MW of KE power network capacity, resulting in a total capacity of approximately 3GW. Obviously, there is a significant gap between the 3GW figure and the total import volume, and the whereabouts of the remaining 24GW components remain a mystery.

Pakistan is located in South Asia and has abundant solar energy resources. Currently, its overall photovoltaic development is in the early stages. Since the beginning of this year, with the decrease in photovoltaic installation costs, the Pakistani solar storage market has entered a golden period of development. Due to the small scale of Pakistan's domestic battery module production capacity, its photovoltaic products are mainly dependent on imports from China.

From the demand perspective, the amount of imported components by Pakistan's customs is increasing year by year. According to data from the General Administration of Customs, from January to June 2024, China exported approximately 12.52 GW of battery modules to Pakistan, making Pakistan the second largest export market for Chinese modules.

Currently, Pakistan's photovoltaic industry is still in a rapid development cycle, and the huge gap between its module imports and grid connected total has attracted industry attention. In response to this issue, TrendForce consulting analysts explained that Pakistan's photovoltaic development is still in its early stages. According to data, China has exported 13GW of photovoltaic modules to Pakistan in the first half of 2024 alone, and Pakistan's imports of photovoltaic products far exceed the official installed capacity statistics
