A cold-chain facility in Dubai's Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) has added a 355 kW solar power plant to support its refrigeration operations, highlighting the growing role of renewable energy in temperature-controlled logistics.

The project was developed by Ninja Group in partnership with Sun Green Energy at Ninja Group's flagship cold-chain facility. According to the reported project details, the solar installation is designed to offset up to 90% of the facility's continuous electricity demand.
Cold-storage facilities rely on refrigeration systems that must operate for extended periods to maintain the required temperatures for food and other temperature-sensitive goods. This continuous demand can make electricity a significant operating expense. Solar power offers one way to supply part of that energy demand during daylight hours and reduce reliance on electricity from the grid.
The project also reflects a broader trend toward integrating renewable energy into logistics and warehousing. As cold-chain networks expand, operators are looking for ways to manage energy costs while maintaining dependable temperature control. Solar installations can help meet daytime electricity needs, although their contribution depends on factors such as sunlight availability, system design and the facility's load profile.
For off-grid and remote refrigeration applications, solar energy may also be combined with battery storage or other backup power sources to maintain operation when sunlight is insufficient. The appropriate configuration depends on the refrigeration equipment, required temperature range and local operating conditions.
The Dubai project demonstrates how solar power can be incorporated into energy-intensive cold-chain infrastructure. Its planned contribution to electricity demand will be an important factor in assessing the project's long-term operational benefits.
