Vietnamese solar manufacturer Boviet Solar has commenced the construction of a 2GW TOPCon solar module factory in North Carolina, USA, with plans for a solar cell factory to follow. The project will be completed in two phases, demonstrating the company's growing footprint in the U.S. solar market.
In the first phase, Boviet Solar will renovate an existing 500,000-square-foot facility in Pitt County. This facility will focus on assembling the company's single-sided Gamma series and double-sided Vega series solar modules, designed for a wide range of applications, including residential, commercial, industrial, and large-scale ground-mounted power stations. Mass production of these modules is expected to begin in the first half of 2025. This comes just six months after Boviet Solar's April 2024 announcement that North Carolina would serve as its production base. The company is investing $294 million in this phase, which will create a 2GW module assembly line.
The second phase of the project involves constructing a new 55,000-square-meter factory dedicated to producing solar cells, with an annual capacity of 2GW. This construction is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. While Boviet Solar has not yet disclosed when it plans to commence commercial production of solar cells, the company's expansion into solar cell manufacturing aligns with its broader strategy to enhance its presence in the U.S. renewable energy market and cater to the growing demand for solar technology.
