Dutch solar cell manufacturer MCPV has recently secured €4.2 million in funding from the Dutch Ministry of Economy, Groningen Province, and the Regional Development Authority NOM to support the construction of its 4GW heterojunction (HJT) solar cell factory in the Veendam region. Alongside this financial backing, MCPV has also signed an agreement with regional grid operator Enexis to ensure sufficient grid capacity for both the factory and its future expansion plans.
MCPV is a subsidiary of the Resilient Group, which announced its intention to produce HJT solar cells in July 2023. Notably, the company was co-founded by Professor Eicke R. Weber, the former head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), lending significant expertise and credibility to the venture.
According to MCPV's official website, the company aims to complete a 400MW manufacturing test line by 2026, followed by a scale-up to 4GW of production capacity by 2028. The long-term goal is to achieve 15GW of efficient photovoltaic manufacturing capacity across Europe by the early 2030s. This expansion aligns with Europe's broader push for renewable energy production and the development of sustainable, high-efficiency solar technologies.
