PowerChina Colombia Branch has officially signed the Santander 251-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic (PV) project, marking another pivotal step in the company's deepening presence in Colombia's new energy market and further strengthening its influence in Latin America's clean energy sector. Li Hai, Deputy General Manager of PowerChina Americas Regional Headquarters, attended the signing ceremony to witness the milestone.

Located in Santander Province, Colombia, the project features a total installed capacity of 251MW, with its scope covering the construction of a PV park, equipment supply, on-site installation, and full commissioning. To maximize energy output and operational reliability, the project will adopt the technical solution of "string inverter + tracking bracket"-a proven approach that effectively enhances power generation efficiency by optimizing solar radiation absorption, ensures stable system operation, and enables the facility to continuously supply reliable clean electricity to local communities and industries.
The successful signing of the Santander PV project is a testament to PowerChina's long-term commitment and meticulous cultivation of the Colombian new energy market. In recent years, PowerChina has steadily advanced the construction of multiple PV projects across Colombia, accumulating a total installed capacity of 800MW to date. Through efficient project delivery, strict quality control, and adherence to local environmental and social standards, the company has earned strong market recognition and a solid brand reputation in the region, laying a robust foundation for further cooperation.
This new project aligns perfectly with Colombia's national energy transition goals. The country has set an ambitious target to add approximately 6GW of renewable energy capacity to its electricity matrix by 2030-accounting for around 30% of its total power mix-as part of its commitment to the Paris Agreement and global efforts to phase out fossil fuels and triple renewable capacity worldwide by 2030. Colombia boasts enormous solar potential, with an estimated technical-economic potential of approximately 8,000GW for large-scale solar projects (over 50MW), far exceeding its current total installed capacity of 21.4GW.
PowerChina's deepening presence in Colombia also reflects its successful localization strategy. The company has already established a comprehensive new energy value chain in the country, covering planning, consulting, engineering design, EPC general contracting, and intelligent operation and maintenance. In 2025 alone, PowerChina completed the full-capacity grid connection of three large-scale ground PV projects in Colombia with a total installed capacity of 260MW, which now supply clean electricity to over 350,000 local households and reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 420,000 tons. These projects also created more than 2,000 direct jobs during construction and prioritized local talent development, with local employees accounting for 95% of key on-site positions.
Looking ahead, PowerChina will continue to leverage its full industrial chain integration advantages, deepen cooperation with local governments, industry partners, and communities in Colombia and across Latin America. The company aims to play a greater role in optimizing the regional energy structure, promoting green and low-carbon development, and supporting Latin American countries in achieving their sustainable energy and carbon neutrality goals. This aligns with PowerChina's broader strategy in the Americas, which includes recent major projects such as the 480MW Ceme 1 solar farm in Chile and the 530MW Sajalices PV project in Panama.
