The auto lay-up machine automates this process, aiming to increase speed, accuracy, and consistency compared to manual lay-up. It's a key piece of equipment for high-volume solar panel production.

 

The automatic lay-up machine (often called a "string lay-up machine" or "matrix lay-up machine") is responsible for precisely positioning the interconnected strings of solar cells onto the first layer of EVA film (which is typically already placed on the glass). It arranges the strings to form the complete cell matrix of the solar panel. Here's a breakdown:

Receiving Strings: The machine receives the strings of interconnected solar cells from the tabbing and stringing machine (or a buffer system).

Precise Positioning: The machine's primary function is to accurately position each string onto the EVA-covered glass, according to the pre-programmed panel design. This involves:

Spacing: Maintaining the correct spacing between the strings. This spacing is critical for electrical performance and to prevent short circuits.

Alignment: Ensuring that the strings are straight and parallel to each other.

Orientation: Placing the strings with the correct polarity (positive and negative ends aligned correctly).

Gentle Handling: The machine handles the fragile strings of cells very carefully to avoid damage (cracks, micro-cracks, or breakage).

Creating the Cell Matrix: The machine repeats this process for each string, building up the complete matrix of cells that will form the active area of the solar panel.

Preparation for Busbar Welding: The precisely positioned strings are now ready for the busbar welding machine, which will connect the strings together electrically.

Preparation for Lamination: After busbar welding, the complete assembly (glass, EVA, cell matrix, busbars, and second EVA layer/backsheet) is ready for lamination.

In essence, the lay-up machine transforms individual strings of cells into the organized, rectangular matrix that is the heart of the solar panel.
